Envoy\u00e9e dans le quartier de Yoshiwara, elle y tombe amoureuse d&rsquo;un lieutenant russe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Avis&nbsp;:<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>R\u00e9alisateur incontournable du XXe si\u00e8cle, <em>Max Oph\u00fcls<\/em> fait ses premi\u00e8res armes au th\u00e9\u00e2tre avant de se tourner vers le septi\u00e8me art. Il amorce sa carri\u00e8re au d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es&nbsp;1930, en plein essor du cin\u00e9ma parlant. Au regard du contexte politique de l\u2019\u00e9poque, l\u2019homme s\u2019exile en France dans un premier temps. Lors de cette p\u00e9riode, on lui confie de nombreux projets, m\u00eame si ceux-ci ne font gu\u00e8re partie de ses \u0153uvres majeures. On peut notamment \u00e9voquer sa collaboration avec <em>Marcel L\u2019Herbier<\/em> pour <strong>Le Scandale<\/strong> ou <strong>La Tendre ennemie<\/strong>. S\u2019essayant \u00e0 diff\u00e9rentes th\u00e9matiques, il ne se cantonne pas \u00e0 un registre particulier. Aussi, <strong>Yoshiwara<\/strong> ne s\u2019inscrit pas dans une continuit\u00e9 artistique ou une quelconque tendance.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lavisqteam.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/344600_backdrop_scale_1280xauto.jpg\"><img src=\"https:\/\/www.lavisqteam.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/344600_backdrop_scale_1280xauto-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-64920\" width=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lavisqteam.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/344600_backdrop_scale_1280xauto-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.lavisqteam.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/344600_backdrop_scale_1280xauto-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lavisqteam.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/344600_backdrop_scale_1280xauto-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.lavisqteam.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/344600_backdrop_scale_1280xauto.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Avant m\u00eame de d\u00e9couvrir l\u2019intrigue, l\u2019initiative interpelle. \u00c0 l\u2019\u00e9poque, le cin\u00e9ma asiatique est peu d\u00e9mocratis\u00e9 en occident et ne suscite gu\u00e8re l\u2019attention du public. Hormis quelques exceptions, il faut \u00e9galement aborder les cultures d\u2019Extr\u00eame-Orient sous un prisme fantasm\u00e9 et r\u00e9ducteur, parfois caricatural. Cela sans compter des productions non natives qui tiennent davantage de la propagande que de l\u2019\u0153uvre artistique. \u00c0 l\u2019image de la version originale et du remake de <strong>Forfaiture<\/strong>, <strong>Yoshiwara<\/strong> s\u2019annonce comme une incursion in\u00e9dite dans le cin\u00e9ma francophone. Une occasion d\u2019appr\u00e9hender la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 nippone sur fond de romance et d\u2019espionnage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Malheureusement, <em>Max Oph\u00fcls<\/em> se heurte \u00e0 des difficult\u00e9s de tournage qui l\u2019oblige \u00e0 niveler ses ambitions par le bas. Il \u00e9tait en effet pr\u00e9vu de se rendre au Japon avant que les producteurs imposent de filmer en studio et de pr\u00e9voir quelques plans ext\u00e9rieurs \u00e0 Paris. Certes, les ant\u00e9c\u00e9dents du cin\u00e9aste permettent de tirer parti de cette artificialisation. De par ses jeux de cam\u00e9ra et son sens de la mise en sc\u00e8ne, il parvient \u00e0 instaurer un style th\u00e9\u00e2tral qui n\u2019est pas pour d\u00e9plaire, \u00e0 d\u00e9faut de faire preuve de r\u00e9alisme. Il se cr\u00e9e n\u00e9anmoins une certaine distance, car l\u2019occupation des espaces demeure restreinte et les d\u00e9cors sont minimalistes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On occulte aussi l\u2019aspect sordide du quartier de Yoshiwara o\u00f9 la criminalit\u00e9 c\u00f4toie la prostitution. Les mises en situation ne sugg\u00e8rent gu\u00e8re de dangers ni de menaces quelconques. On se contente d\u2019un exotisme lisse, presque surann\u00e9, tant il v\u00e9hicule des clich\u00e9s grossiers. De m\u00eame, le film s\u2019avance comme un drame romantique. Or, la bande-son et la l\u00e9g\u00e8ret\u00e9 ambiante conf\u00e8rent de faux atours comiques \u00e0 l\u2019histoire. Cela tient aux incursions des officiers-marins ou encore aux autorit\u00e9s locales d\u2019une rare incomp\u00e9tence. L\u2019ensemble n\u2019a rien de naturel et le changement de ton n\u2019aide gu\u00e8re \u00e0 insuffler une connotation tragique \u00e0 l\u2019idylle entre les deux protagonistes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Quelle que soit leur importance, les personnages p\u00e2tissent d\u2019une caract\u00e9risation al\u00e9atoire, elle est percluse de clich\u00e9s en tout genre. \u00c0 l\u2019instar des \u00e9changes hi\u00e9rarchiques, les lignes de dialogue sont \u00e9galement basiques et portent \u00e0 peu de cons\u00e9quences. Il est aussi \u00e0 d\u00e9plorer que l\u2019intrigue secondaire d\u00e9di\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019affaire d\u2019espionnage s\u2019appuie uniquement sur des rumeurs et des allusions jamais d\u00e9velopp\u00e9es ou expliqu\u00e9es. Il faut se contenter d\u2019ordres, de regards hostiles et de chantages sur fond de manipulation. Quid des objectifs ou des implications associ\u00e9s aux enjeux diplomatiques et g\u00e9opolitiques&nbsp;? L\u2019id\u00e9e initiale reste int\u00e9ressante pour d\u00e9peindre le quartier sulfureux de Tokyo au XIXe si\u00e8cle. Au sortir de cette consid\u00e9ration, <em>Max Oph\u00fcls<\/em> se d\u00e9p\u00eatre tant bien que mal avec des d\u00e9cors sans relief (sans doute au sens propre, d\u2019ailleurs) et un sc\u00e9nario gu\u00e8re approfondi. Pour autant, on sent cette volont\u00e9 de porter le projet avec peu de moyens, ne serait-ce qu\u2019\u00e0 travers cet aspect th\u00e9\u00e2tral qui sauve le m\u00e9trage du naufrage. Cependant, il est difficile de faire l\u2019impasse sur des clich\u00e9s en pagaille, ainsi qu\u2019un traitement superficiel.
