Ignorant la d\u00e9faite du Japon puis refusant d\u2019y croire, attendant l\u2019arriv\u00e9e d\u2019un ennemi qui n\u2019existe plus, ils en viennent \u00e0 se faire la guerre entre eux pour la possession de l\u2019unique femme \u00e0 leur port\u00e9e : Keiko, surnomm\u00e9e la Reine des Abeilles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Avis&nbsp;:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En comparaison d\u2019autres illustres cin\u00e9astes de l\u2019\u00e2ge d\u2019or hollywoodien, le nom de <em>Josef von Sternberg <\/em>n\u2019est gu\u00e8re pass\u00e9 \u00e0 la post\u00e9rit\u00e9 dans l\u2019histoire du 7<sup>e<\/sup> art. Malgr\u00e9 des incursions notables, comme <strong>L\u2019Imp\u00e9ratrice rouge<\/strong> ou son adaptation de <strong>Crime et ch\u00e2timent<\/strong>, le r\u00e9alisateur a connu une carri\u00e8re houleuse. Son potentiel artistique a souvent \u00e9t\u00e9 brid\u00e9 par les vell\u00e9it\u00e9s mercantiles des producteurs issus de grands studios. L\u2019homme se distingue n\u00e9anmoins par des \u0153uvres int\u00e9ressantes. Au d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es&nbsp;1950, il se rend au Japon pour concr\u00e9tiser un projet aux antipodes de ce qu\u2019il a d\u00e9j\u00e0 mis en sc\u00e8ne&nbsp;: <strong>Fi\u00e8vre sur Anatahan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lavisqteam.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/64915065.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"512\" height=\"384\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lavisqteam.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/64915065.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-57739\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lavisqteam.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/64915065.png 512w, https:\/\/www.lavisqteam.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/64915065-300x225.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c0 cette \u00e9poque, l\u2019ouverture culturelle de l\u2019archipel nippon \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle internationale se r\u00e9sume \u00e0 quelques grands noms tels que <em>Yasujir\u014d Ozu<\/em> ou <em>Akira Kurosawa<\/em>. En Occident, l\u2019engouement des sp\u00e9cialistes et des historiens du cin\u00e9ma ne surviendra que plusieurs d\u00e9cennies plus tard. <strong>Fi\u00e8vre sur Anatahan<\/strong>, avant-dernier m\u00e9trage de <em>Sternberg<\/em>, constitue une v\u00e9ritable singularit\u00e9, tant dans sa filmographie que dans le 7<sup>e<\/sup> art dans son ensemble. Si l\u2019on peut noter le clivage entre les origines austro-am\u00e9ricaines du r\u00e9alisateur et son \u00e9quipe de tournage japonaise, cet aspect ne provoque pas de divergences artistiques. De ce point de vue, <em>Sternberg<\/em> n\u2019est pas aussi isol\u00e9 que ses personnages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pourtant, <em>Josef von Sternberg<\/em> a une vision tr\u00e8s particuli\u00e8re de cette histoire inspir\u00e9e de faits av\u00e9r\u00e9s o\u00f9 des soldats naufrag\u00e9s trouvent refuge sur une \u00eele. Celle-ci est uniquement occup\u00e9e par un couple. Afin d\u2019exposer son propos, la d\u00e9couverte et le d\u00e9roulement de l\u2019intrigue se font \u00e0 la mani\u00e8re d\u2019un r\u00e9cit \u00e9pistolaire, renvoyant ainsi au livre <strong>Anatahan<\/strong>, \u00e9crit par <em>Michiro Maruyama<\/em>. La voix off accompagne le spectateur tout au long du film. Il t\u00e9moigne des \u00e9v\u00e8nements sous l\u2019angle partial d\u2019un des survivants. On notera le ton monocorde et impassible qui vient contredire la subjectivit\u00e9 de la narration, voire de certains \u00e9lans passionn\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9vocation de Keiko.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Objet de d\u00e9sir et de fascination, Keiko symbolise ici l\u2019image de la femme avec toute la connotation sensuelle et sibylline qui la caract\u00e9rise. Au fil de la progression, elle est un catalyseur de frictions exacerb\u00e9es, puis de convoitises. Si elle n\u2019est en rien responsable des \u00e9v\u00e8nements qui surviennent, elle devient pour les naufrag\u00e9s un pr\u00e9texte pour noyer leur d\u00e9sespoir dans des ambitions discordantes. Au-del\u00e0 de l\u2019app\u00e9tence charnelle, il y a une volont\u00e9 de se hisser au sommet du pouvoir (de la cha\u00eene alimentaire&nbsp;?) afin d\u2019asseoir sa domination aupr\u00e8s de l\u2019autre. En ce sens, l\u2019une des s\u00e9quences les plus frappantes demeure ce plan de c\u00e9l\u00e9bration du Nouvel An.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les protagonistes forment une pyramide avec diff\u00e9rents niveaux de hi\u00e9rarchie o\u00f9 l\u2019on constate la place de Keiko, alors remis\u00e9 au rang de divinit\u00e9, puis des soupirants, de la masse et, enfin des laiss\u00e9s-pour-compte. Si le public a conscience du nombre d\u2019ann\u00e9es qui s\u2019\u00e9coulent, ce n\u2019est pas le cas des naufrag\u00e9s. Au fur et \u00e0 mesure, la perte de rep\u00e8res temporels se fait l\u2019\u00e9cho d\u2019un d\u00e9sespoir croissant. D\u2019un ordre militaire, on ne sombre pas forc\u00e9ment sur un syst\u00e8me anarchique, mais une monarchie tyrannique o\u00f9 le statut de \u00ab&nbsp;roi&nbsp;\u00bb est aussi envi\u00e9 que dangereux. On appr\u00e9ciera le fait que les reliquats de la civilisation, comme les armes, sont davantage consid\u00e9r\u00e9s comme les principaux vecteurs des tensions observ\u00e9es et non d\u2019un moyen de d\u00e9fense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bien que cruelle, cette m\u00eame civilisation demeure l\u2019esclave d\u2019artefacts qui, l\u00e0 encore, \u00e9l\u00e8ve l\u2019homme au-del\u00e0 de sa condition. Le semblant de coh\u00e9sion s\u2019effrite face \u00e0 l\u2019avidit\u00e9 et \u00e0 l\u2019abattement g\u00e9n\u00e9ral. On convient alors que le concept de survie ne tient pas \u00e0 s\u2019adapter dans un environnement sauvage, mais \u00e0 se pr\u00e9munir de la nature de l\u2019homme, particuli\u00e8rement veule. Le message sous-jacent est tout aussi pertinent que subtil. On regrette n\u00e9anmoins des affrontements assez sommaires o\u00f9 les coups de poignard dans le dos et les blessures par balles souffrent de proc\u00e9d\u00e9s vieillissants, voire de trucages purement absents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Passablement oubli\u00e9 depuis sa sortie, <strong>Fi\u00e8vre sur Anatahan<\/strong> constitue une \u0153uvre particuli\u00e8rement intense et \u00e2pre sur la notion d\u2019humanit\u00e9. Sous couvert d\u2019un r\u00e9cit de survie, <em>Josef von Sternberg<\/em> d\u00e9peint une fresque lucide et sans concession sur la convoitise, le d\u00e9sespoir et l\u2019isolement, \u00e0 d\u00e9faut d\u2019une v\u00e9ritable solitude. Sans pour autant faire preuve d\u2019\u00e9lans f\u00e9ministes avant-gardistes, le r\u00e9alisateur trace un portrait de la femme autrement plus fascinant. Eu \u00e9gard \u00e0 la narration, il persiste une distance entre le spectateur et l\u2019\u0153uvre.
